9:30AM-2:30PM | CERA/NRW Training Workshop

Attend the Community Emergency Radio Association's free training workshop at the Marshall Grange, 4940 Marshall Rd, Garden Valley, CA. This training event is designed for community members who are interested in using radios as a backup communications solution to prepare and stay safe, especially during disaster events like wildfires or winter snowstorms when cell and internet might not be available.

Presentations begin at 9:30am. Feel free to attend the full day or specific sessions.

  • 9:30-10:00am : Scanners 101 - A broad overview of how scanners can be used to monitor local police, fire, and emergency communications.
  • 10:15-11:00am : Basic Radio Usage - Learn how to use 2-way radios for backup communications during disaster events like wildfires.
  • 11:00am-12:00pm : Lunch Break - Bring your own lunch or purchase a convenient lunch at Red Rooster Burgers & Brew, a 5 min walk and 1600 feet across the street from the Grange.
  • 12:00-1:00pm : Advanced Net Operations - Learn how to conduct "Radio Safety Nets" before and during emergencies.
  • 1:15-2:15pm : Wildfire Behavior - Understand wildfire behavior and hear practical advice on how to keep people and property safe before and during disasters.
